BIPOLAR DIORDER WITH BASAL GANGLIA LESION



Abstract
The basal ganglia plays an imporant role in higher cognitive functions such as reguiation of affect, attention, and sensory gating. It may be one neuroanatomical region involved in the pathogenesis of idiopathic affective disorders.
Recently many brain imaging studies. using positron emission tomographv(PET), single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT), magnetic resonance imaging(MR1) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy( MRS) have been used to find the functional and anatomical change of various brain region including basal ganglia.
The purpose of this paper is to report one case of bipolar disorder with basal ganglia lesion and to review relating literature.
